The Jewish Home of San Francisco is a not-for-profit, licensed skilled nursing facility and residential community specializing in programs, services, and care for older adults.
From our modest beginnings in 1871 as a residential center for twelve seniors, the Jewish Home has grown to a nine-acre comprehensive senior care center with five distinct buildings, serving more than 420 residents with diverse care needs, and providing rehabilitation services to numerous others seeking short-term care stays.
For 137 years, the Jewish Home has ensured that Bay Area elderly have always had a place to call home.

Caring & Sharing: In Good Company
"When we visit our mother at the Home, we are always appreciative, not just for the care she receives, but also for the unconditional respect given her. We leave our visits feeling grateful and knowing she is safe. This contribution is our way of saying thanks to the Jewish Home. It is part of abiding by God’s commandment to ‘honor thy mother and thy father.’"
Debra Reynolds and Steven Hammerschlag
Family of Ilse Hammerschlag, Jewish Home resident
Our focus is on helping residents live each day to its fullest, in a secure, dignified environment. As a not-for-profit organization, the Jewish Home relies on the community – family and friends of residents, as well as others in the Bay Area – to maintain these high standards. Historically, thousands have rallied to support the Home. During the 2006/2007 fiscal year:
- 3,285 people donated to the Home
- Gifts ranged from $2 and up. Every gift counts!
- Donors contributed to the Home for a variety of purposes, including:
- Building a new 55,000 square-foot center
- Modernizing the pharmacy
- Underwriting arts programs
- Buying a new bed for a resident
- Sponsoring the comedy clinic
- Purchasing a new wheelchair
- Supporting the operating fund so that those with limited resources receive the care they need
